Join us at Be-Ras Creatives Art Cafe for a unique workshop where you will discover the art of Yobitsugi----a distinctive approach to Kintsugi.
In this class, you will learn the technique of mending broken vessels using fragments from different objects. You will create a piece with a patchwork-like appearance, showcasing a beautiful combination of colours, textures, and materials.
Yobitsugi is a traditional Japanese mending technique that combines pieces from different broken objects to create a new whole, unlike the traditional Kintsugi, which repairs an item with pieces from its own original fragments. The term translates to "call into" or "invite connection" and is often used when original pieces are missing, resulting in a unique, patchwork-like finish.
Under our guidance, you will learn the contemporary method of Yobitsugi using epoxy adhesive and mica powder. This approach is not only less allergenic but also a fast-drying and cost-effective alternative to traditional precious metals and lacquer.
In a world that often leans towards disposability, this workshop offers a journey into sustainability and creativity while acquiring a new skill. Embrace the art of restoring cherished objects with gold joinery and leave with a unique piece of art that embodies resilience and beauty.
Important info:
  • Please note if the private booking is for 10 or less than 10 people, then we will add the date as a public date for others to book.
  • Not recommended for pregnant participants due to the use of epoxy glue and mica gold dust.
  • Suitable for adults; participants aged 12 and above can join with supervision.
  • Plates for repair will be provided during the session.
  • A period of time is necessary post-class for your bowl to properly set due to the nature of the materials used. Kintsugi is a practice of patience, with the epoxy requiring a 24-hour setting time.

Rashmi is an architect turned crafter and small business owner with a vibrant cafe in the Docklands. She is someone who loves art and learning something new every day. Her journey to becoming an artist started with one art project at a time. She started making Kokedama’s and polymer clay earrings for a bit of fun. She loved it so much that she gifted a lot to her friends and which birthed her enthusiasm for handmade things. Soon they started making them together, and they all loved them so much that we decided to share the art with more people.
Creating something handmade is a fun process with lots of laughter and good coffee. You make new friends who love plants and art as much as you do.
